It was Pandit Sastri's ambition that he should die in harness with a manuscript in his hand. He used to express this very often. He was active till his death. He always liked travelling and never missed the cool air of the Nilgiris in summer. Even there he would bathe early in the morning under the tap, take a brisk walk both in the morning and in the evening and do some writing work in the afternoon. But age finally told on him. His heart became weak and after a brief illness he breathed his last on 15th June, 1950, at the age of 84.

The end was rather sudden; his children and grandchildren were gathered around him. The most touching site was the group of Harijans who had come all the way from Aryanayakipuram to pay their last homage to him at Nagercoil. Thus passed away a man who was great in his own way and quite unconscious of it and there can be no better monument to his memory than the Sanskrit manuscripts we see in the various libraries in India today.
